WE Communications has made two senior hires in its digital and experience technology team.

Brian Keenan has been appointed head of strategy and Mike Nikotin has been hired as an art director.

Keenan was previously at Weber Shandwick where he was responsible for building and launching the agency’s strategy and analytics functions in Sydney as senior vice president of planning and head of business intelligence. Prior to that, he spent six years at Ketchum in London and New York.

Keenan has worked with brands such as Aldi, American Airlines, IBM and Mastercard.

In his new role, Keenan will be responsible for WE’s strategy department, involving research, analytics, content and brand planning, and agency IP.

Nikotin joins WE as part of its creative studio, made up of animators, designers, editors and producers. His career spans Enigma Communication, Mercerbell, VMLY&R and With Collective.

Both Keenan and Nikotin will be working with Nichole Provatas, who heads up the digital and experience technology team. Since its inception three years ago the team has grown to almost $3 million through a surge in new clients and extended remits across the technology, health and corporate sectors.

“Clients today care more about executing the best ideas and solutions to their challenges versus the idea’s origin,” Provatas said.

“WE has consistently delivered innovative thinking and flawless full-funnel execution for brands like Adobe, HP, Janssen, Wise and Trend Micro. The addition of Brian and Mike to our DXT team further expands our senior bench as we continue to invest in our specialist craft and respond to the changing nature of the way people consume content following the pandemic.”

We managing director Dan Woods – who was appointed to the role earlier this month – added: “Brian’s strategic insights combined with Mike’s creative capabilities will further enhance our counsel and available capabilities to clients as we collectively navigate today’s fast-changing reality.”

Woods was made MD upon the promotion of Gemma Hudson from CEO to executive vice president of health innovation and growth, in response to the accelerating growth opportunities for the agency in the health sector.
