Weber extends naming rights partnership with WBBL

Weber Barbeques has extended its naming rights partnership with the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) by an additional year after a successful first season.

The extension will carry the partnership forward into the 9th season of the WBBL (20223-24), after the barbeque brand  joined the League for an initial two-year partnership in September 2021.

Cricket Australia and the Women’s Big Bash League thanked Weber for supporting the competition, which they say has solidified its position as “Australia’s premier sporting league in the October and November window”.

The League said it was proud to continue working with Weber, recognising that the brand is “renowned for its innovation, products and creating the ultimate backyard experience, to bring the essence of summer alive at matches through the partnership”.

The League also outlined plans to strength the connection of its Clubs and players with the brand, including through immersive experiences such as the Perth Scorcher’s recent visit to the Weber Store in Cannington, Western Australia. The visit saw players and support staff develop their culinary skills on a range of Weber products while also strengthening bonds within the group ahead of the Weber WBBL Season 8.

Michael McDonald, Weber Barbecues managing director, Australia and New Zealand, said: “We are delighted to be extending our naming rights partnership of the WBBL. Barbecuing and cricket are the perfect recipe for the Australian summer and our partnership is enthusiastically supported by our consumers, our retail partners and our team.

“We believe that getting involved in barbecuing, like playing cricket, should be inclusive of everyone and we are very proud to be able to support the growth of women’s cricket in Australia.”

Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia’s general manager of Big Bash Leagues, said: “The League is delighted to be extending its naming rights partnership with Weber Barbecues into a third season.

“Both Weber and the WBBL are world class in their field, but both also share strong links to the essence of summer: fun, family, food and cricket.

“We look forward to working with Weber over the next two seasons to strengthen these ties and deliver a brilliant experience to our fans nationwide.”
