‘We’re bloody proud to be here’: Jase and Lauren dethrone O’Connell; Kyle and Jackie O not on podium

Nova’s Jase and Lauren have taken the top spot in Melbourne’s fiercely contested Breakfast FM radio wars, with Kyle and Jackie O’s new show on their former broadcaster KIIS 101.1, nowhere to be seen.

After taking a commanding 1.2 point lead over the pack last survey, Christian O’Connell’s GOLD show has slipped into third place in the FM band, falling from 10.8 to 8.3.

Jase and Lauren jumped 0.2 points to take the lead, while Fifi, Fev and Nick on The FOX move back into second place.

Mike Perso on smoothfm has also dropped from 8.6 to 7.9 – and although Kyle and Jackie O have added 0.2 points this survey, they hold just 6.1% of the Melbourne breakfast listenership – sitting in fifth on the FM band and seventh overall in Melbourne breakfast, once you account for 3AW’s whopping 21.3% market share, and ABC’s 8.2.

“This is a great day for Nova and we’re absolutely over the moon for the Melbourne breakfast team,” Nova’s group program director Brendan Taylor said.

“To hit number one is an incredible result and a wonderful redemption story for Jase, Lauren and Clint. To achieve this just a few months after launching the show is a testament to our hugely talented breakfast team and their connection to Melbourne listeners.

“And on top of this, having the most listened to breakfast shows in four out of five markets across Australia is the icing on the cake.”

Phillips said of their result: “We’ve been having such a great time at Nova 100, and we couldn’t be more thankful to the Melburnians who have joined us so far on this crazy ride,” said Phillips.

Hawkins added: “We can’t thank Melbourne enough for the support they’ve shown us, and we don’t take for granted the opportunity to wake up with Australia’s greatest city every morning. None of this is lost on us and we’re bloody proud to be here.”
