What the Twitterati are saying about Adtech
Sydney’s Adtech conference got underway this morning, and it can probably already lay claim to being Australia’s most Tweeted event to date.
While the most common early conversation on Twitter was griping about problems with the wifi, this is a small selection from delegate tweets so far and their real time take on the presentations:
- charlierobinson: no longer high numbers are important in metrics… influence and results to engage thru is more
- jyesmith: Smirnoff: less about amount of traffic and more about quality of engagement (length of time etc). rather than quant clicks, views
- jyesmith: optimising user experience key to online success and measurement for improvement
- @CharisPalmer; “as UBank has 247 call centre leveraging for Twitter servicing could be resource efficient”
- montyhamilton: Charis Palmer says “banks still think they control their brands” maybe the logo and the tagline hehe…
- GordWeisflock: i must say imo the expert socializers seem to be a little negative/jaded …whats the value on being negative?
- ideagarden: restrictions on diageo brands actually make them work harder and drive more innovative ideas
- neerav: Jackie (BeautyHeaven) says dont let legal department handicap online conversations by not allowing real human communication
- ideagarden: NRMA – the challenge is to create a channel where people can talk about the issues not about the company…
- ideagarden: NRMA to launch an advocacy campaign next week to ask Australia what they want (unmoderated)
- TheBogan: Shit! Fell asleep during that last presentation
- anvil: Ad Tech Sydney? overpriced backslapping cronie-fest!
- @dgmAustralia: Kyle’s giving Jeff from Email Cash a run for his money on the ping pong table!
- shutterstation: Cool things Kodak has in store for the “future”? Geotagging, facial recognition? Apple? Nikon? What a joke.
- JulianCole: What is the wireless password for the ad tech wireless? Need to bit torrent latest ep. of Nip/Tuck
- Nneon: Interesting to hear how kodak has learnt to survive in a digital world… had no idea they invented the digital camera
- stephenconroy: I’ll be at #atsyd drinks, @kimota. Monitoring you. Monitoring ALL OF YOU.
- stephenconroy: Worst. Coffee. Ever.
- contactdjy: PR depts involvement in digital marketing seems like an after thought at Diageo
- acatinatree: It appears Aussies are massively outnumbered
One of the most commented upon videos shown at the event is this, from Kodak, which starts slow and gets more amusing as it goes:
The hashtag to follow Adtech is #atsyd.

Thanks for letting me know, Graham – sorted.
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
The interesting thing about Twittering at a conference is that you’re not focussed on what’s being said – you’re formulating (and voicing) your opinions on the fly. There’s something to be said about taking something in and letting it settle before making your mind up.
First thoughts are not the most considered thoughts, so to my mind, the jury’s still out on whether Twittering at ad:tech actually generated any real insight from the audience.
