When Peter Vogel did the Harlem Shake
Dr Mumbo was about to declare the Harlem Shake as the most over-rated viral phenomenon of the early 21st century.
But then he saw media agency MEC’s contribution, or more specifically, the dance moves of CEO Peter Vogel, complete with his shiny dance baton.
Dr Mumbo suspects there’s more to come of this. He’s also seen a note from Vogel challenging fellow Group M bosses including chairman John Steedman, trading boss James Parkinson, MediaCom’s Mark Pejic, Maxus’ Jon Chadwick and MindShare’s James Greet. Vogel tells them:
“We hereby challenge GM, MC, MS, MX, Xaxis/GMP to produce a shake video. If you think you’re too cool for this – stuff you. If not please share your attempts.”
The challenge is laid… (although Dr Mumbo suspects that the chances of James Greet busting out some dance moves are somewhat slim…)
And, as usual, Austtralia’s radio stations have been quick to jump on the trend to. Here’s Nova Sydney’s effort:
And the Triple M Brisbane’s:
And, of course, 2Day FM’s:
And, slightly more extraordinarily, Kyle Sandilands, Jackie O and David Hasselhoff…
I don’t see why any company (not just MEC) think this is still funny to do at this stage. Way too late.
good to see them having a laugh
