Whippet appoints new ECD

Retail focused brand communications agency Whippet has appointed former SapientNitro creative director Tod O’Reilly as its new executive creative director in Melbourne.

The announcement:

Retail focused, brand communications agency Whippet is looking to expand it’s offer by hiring Tod O’Reilly to look over their growing client list.

“We have a compelling offer both here in Melbourne and also the UK, delivering strong retail communications and design, but there’s an opportunity to build on that by adding more strategic brand thinking into the mix.” says Steve Stoner, Principal Director of Whippet. “With Tod on board we gain years of retail experience and expanded skills including creative strategy, TV and content.”

Whippet has continued to grow both in Australia and the UK working with major retail brands including Coles, Tesco, Wickes, and most recently Target.

“Tod’s background with large retailers like David Jones, Myer, Kmart and Supercheap Auto is something we looked at when making the decision. It complimented our business perfectly. Tod will help develop our ability to create powerful customer communications and campaigns, working from the store out, through the channels that are most effective for the retailer.” said Stoner. “Our experience within retail also sets us up perfectly to add value to brands that want stronger presence in stores.”

When asked about the role, O’Reilly said: “There are a lot of agencies telling their retail clients how well they deliver customers to the brand but once the customer arrives at the store, the agency tends to lose interest – it’s a ‘job done’ mentality. The thing I like about Whippet is the effort they go to to get the in-store message right, after all, that’s where real sales happen.”
