Will Google Voice be a Telstra killer?

Google is set to take on the telcos with the launch of Google Voice – a service that turns voicemails into email or SMS, allow a user to be contacted via a single number and provides cheap local and international telephony.

The company announced the initial stage of the rollout in the US today.

A spokesman for Google Australia told Mumbrella: “We do plan to make this service available internationally, but don’t have a specific time line for Australia.”

Google expert John Battelle, predicted:

“If it’s effortless, if it works without having to call someone to help me make it work, well, it’s a huge, huge hit.”
