Future Women has announced the winners of its inaugural NSW Rural Scholarship Program, in partnership with the NSW Government.

24 women from across regional New South Wales have been chosen after a rigorous selection process to receive the scholarship, which offers access to the coveted Future Women Platinum+ Program, valued at $5,500 each.

The total number of scholarship recipients was doubled, after the program was launched with 12 scholarships in November 2020, in response to the quality and volume of entries.

“Future Women was overwhelmed by the response. We received hundreds of applications. This introduced us to the stories of so many exceptional women. As a result we decided to gift everyone who was nominated a Future Women Gold membership. We are now really looking forward to welcoming them to the community as we work to build a large, diverse and engaged membership,” said Future Women founder Helen McCabe.

The 24 winners come from across the state and have varied professional backgrounds – from farming to healthcare, police forces and entrepreneurship.

NSW Minister for Women Bronnie Taylor said: “Regional women are the lifeblood of rural communities, they are the ones who keep people connected often at the same time they are working and raising a family. Not only will this scholarship help these women with leadership skills, I am sure women in our cities will realise what amazing work our country women can achieve and how working together can make a difference for everyone, whether you’re based in Bondi or Bourke.”

The one-year scholarship program kicks off with the winners attending the Future Women Leadership Summit in Sydney on March 9 and 10. Over the course of the year, recipients of the digitally-led scholarship will avail of various other networking, mentoring and learning content and opportunities, all designed to help them “connect, learn and lead”.

Not only do the 24 winners get to join the vibrant Future Women community, all 423 women who entered will also receive a complimentary one-year Gold membership, which gives them access to Future Proof, a nine-part career development webinar series, plus other benefits.
