Women’s State of Origin beats AFL in Thursday night ratings

Close to 2 million Australians tuned into watch the first Women’s State Of Origin match on Thursday night.

The first of a three-game series reached 1,983,000 viewers, and an average audience of 941,000 for the match. It was second only to Seven News in the evening’s ratings, with its average audience dwarfing the AFL’s still-impressive 561,000 – with a reach of 1.86 million.

Even the pre-match for the Origin drew 665,000 viewers, ranking among the top ten.

This bodes well for the following two matches, which will also air live and on free-to-air, on Nine.
