Wonder Woman holds top spot at weekend box office despite The Mummy’s debut

Warner Bros’ Wonder Woman managed to hold the top spot at the weekend box office, collecting more than $5.707m across 420 screens.

The film, which earned almost $7m in its first weekend, has made a total of $14.674m since its premiere on June 1.

While it wasn’t able to beat Wonder Woman, Universal’s The Mummy came in at second place in its first weekend at the box office, achieving $4.649m.

The movie, which features Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella and Russell Crowe, tells the story of an ancient princess, who wakes up in our currently day and terrorises modern society.

According to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia, Paramount’s Baywatch slipped to third place, with $2.184m in earnings over the weekend.

The movie has made $7.253m in total.

Disney’s Pirate of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales fell to fourth place, managing $1.548m at the weekend box office, which brings its total to $12.331m.

In its first weekend at box office and finishing in fifth place was My Cousin Rachel, a dark romance about a young Englishman who plots revenge against his cousin, after he believes she murdered his guardian.

My Cousin Rachel made $414,834 over the weekend across 74 screens.
