Woolworths introduces the Lady Gaga of the prawn world
Woolworths has unveiled the second instalment of its Christmas advertising campaign, featuring an eccentric champion of themed prawn recipes.
The Prawn Whisperer follows last week’s launch of The Ham King, which covered similar territory, featuring a father and son doing battle over the preparation of the traditional Christmas ham.
In the ad, the prawn-loving cook celebrates her best tableaux including the safari-themed Prawn Free, Bruce Springsteen-themed Prawn In The USA and Lady Gaga tribute Prawn This Way.
This year’s Christmas effort, she decides, will be prawndeer instead of reindeer.
And in a nod to the dessert dish popularised by Network Ten’s Masterchef, the ad also features what appears to be a croquembouche made of prawns.
The work is Droga5’s first Christmas campaign for Woolworths. The agency won the account in March.

As I said when I saw it for the first time last night – best one they will produce, hands down. Or hams down. Damn. If only it was the Ham ad.

Classic Droga5.
This is what it’s all about.
Who said brilliant planning and brilliant execution can’t come together under one roof – this is the kind of stuff that made them famous in NYC.
Prawn-Deer! I nearly fell of my chair!

Gotta love an ad that makes you feel good! Thanks for making me smile. Thanks for reflecting the cultural make-up of Australia.

Asians, now an accepted part of the Australian (media) landscape! Perhaps next decade we will welcome Indians, after that Muslims and finally perhaps just perhaps Aborigines… Adverts may well someday reflect an undistorted view to their viewers, or more likely TV will die an unwatched death well before that. Nice, kooky advert though 🙂

This is the lamest ad I’ve seen in some time. But it’s obviously very pleased with itself

The ad has that cheesy quality that surrounds all Woolworth’s ads.
