Wright and Salim depart Colenso BBDO to join Deloitte Digital

Following former Clemenger BBDO CEO Nick Garrett joining Deloitte Digital last week, two more Clemenger Group talent have joined Deloitte Digital Creative.

Colenso BBDO executive creative director Dan Wright has joined as chief creative officer for Sydney and New Zealand, and Colenso BBDO executive business director Ahmad Salim has been appointed as managing director of Deloitte Digital Creative in New Zealand.

Wright worked with Garrett during their time together at Colenso BBDO, where Wright held the title of digital creative director from 2010 to 2014, before being promoted to creative director from 2014 to 2016.

Deloitte Digital Creative’s APAC chief creative officer, Matt Lawson, said: “Dan is one of those rare creatives that has the perfect combination of creative vigour and intellectual rigour. And that’s exactly what you need when the aim is to constantly create what’s new and impactful. As for Ahmad, he’s a pioneering leader who has consistently forged new ground for clients, and shows no sign of slowing down. We are incredibly lucky to have both join this unified trans-Tasman team.”

On the appointments, Garrett commented: “Dan is a class act and of course we know each other very well from our five years working together at Colenso. He is a rare breed of creative leader who excels at storytelling and system thinking, without compromise and he is an absolute pleasure to work with. Ahmad brings amazing energy and appetite for the new, and he has blown me away with what he has achieved in his career.”

Wright said: “We’re now able to collide the power of creativity with the staggering capability of Deloitte, in a borderless, more collaborative and open way. Ahmad and I see this as a critical shift. Whether our clients are tackling climate change, social and equity issues, business growth, are in their infancy or transforming into a purpose-driven business, the integration of creativity into core business models, processes, and products will be increasingly vital.”

Colenso BBDO’s managing director Angela Watson said of the departures: “It’s sad to say goodbye to Dan and Ahmad. But this is something to celebrate as good people are off to do new things. They’ve both contributed so much to Colenso – we thank them for that – and can’t wait to see what they get up to in their next adventure.”

Salim will lead the creative business in New Zealand.

Their departures follows the departure of Levi Slavin last week, who was Colenso BBDO’s chief creative officer.
