The announcement:

Wunderman Thompson, Perth, has won Round 5 of the 2022 Siren Awards for a radio ad highlighting homelessness to raise donations for the Anglicare WA, Christmas campaign.

‘Home for the Holidays”, was awarded overall, single and the craft category winner of Round 5. It is the third overall round win this year for Wunderman Thompson and the second for the agency’s client Anglicare WA.

Sound engineer, Brad Habib from Soundbyte Studios also won the craft category for “Home for The Holidays”.

Creatives Jordan Ellis, Meg Watson and Tim Newton’s radio ad conveys the powerful story of someone forced to sleep in their car on Christmas Day due to homelessness. The ad uses as little words as possible to create the scene. The creatives said their goal was to put the audience in the “uncomfortable and uncertain position of living in their car while other people were experiencing the joy of Christmas Day.”

“Our inspiration was the reality that homeless people face at this time of year. Tapping into the contrasting experiences of homeless people and those more fortunate was the perfect way to encourage people to donate.”

Joan Warner, CRA chief executive officer said, “Once again the Wunderman Thompson creative team has skillfully used the power of radio as an effective call to action mechanism for the charity sector with their winning Round 5 ‘Home for the Holidays’.”

Special Group Australia was the campaign winner with Jeff Seeff and Joel Grunstein receiving recognition for their radio ad, “This Calls for Uber Eats”. They were also recognised with a highly commended in the single category.
