Wylie Fowler appointed as new Australian GM of Octagon

Octagon, the Australian Sport and Entertainment Marketing arm of Interpublic Group (NYSE:IPG), has appointed Wylie Fowler as General Manager, Australia after an extensive international search.

The announcement:

The internal promotion of Wylie Fowler in the Octagon, the Australian Sport and Entertainment Marketing arm of Interpublic Group (NYSE:IPG), was announced today.

Fowler will fill the role previously held by Rob Vercoe, who departed in late May – after almost 4 years with the agency – to take on a client side appointment.

Fowler joined Octagon as Group Strategy Director in 2012 from Moon Communications, where he was the Director of Strategy and Planning. Prior to this, he has held roles with Sony Music, General Pants and Coke.

Sean Nicholls, Octagon’s President, Asia Pacific says, “We pride ourselves on developing great internal talent, but with an appointment of this level we will always look for the very best person – no matter where in the world they happen to be. In this case we were fortunate to have the best applicant already in the building.”

Fowler will be responsible for the agency’s Marketing Division which handles brand engagement, experiential, integrated creative, content production, research and strategy work for the likes of Lion, Telstra, MasterCard, ANZ, Samsung and Red Bull.

On his new role, Fowler says “I am honored to be taking up the role of GM for Octagon. In particular I am excited about the opportunities at hand given the pace of change in our industry. I see a bright future for agencies involved in ideas that promote true engagement through active participation, a direction Octagon has been championing in recent times. We have a strong history in sport and entertainment marketing – platforms that encapsulate many of Australia’s greatest passions. I see this as a key strength as we work to extend the power of those passions into other parts of our clients’ business.

“We are fortunate to have innovative and brave staff and clients whom I know share our vision for insight led, creative and accountable thinking.”

“I’m inspired by the team here and I look forward to the challenges to come.”

Fowler will formally commence in the new role on Monday 10th June, 2013. He will be based in the agency’s Sydney offices.
