X Factor launch overshadowed by exit of host Matthew Newton
Seven has revealed that The X Factor is to start next Monday – but it has lost Matthew Newton as the host, it is being reported this morning.
After weeks of promos for the talent contest, the network finally showed its hand over the weekend, revealing that The X Factor launches a week tonight.
Seven announced that it was to launch The X Factor back in May. The show is being produced for Seven by Fremantle Media.
But according to the Herald Sun, Newton has left the show for health reasons. Seven issued a statement to Mumbrella saying:
“Matthew had a strong commitment to the program – he has tried his utmost to make it work. He has the support of his family and close circle of friends as he works his way back to full health.”
The X Factor is already something of a risk for Seven with an earlier version for Ten having failed to make an impact in 2005, and Australian Idol moved out of Ten’s schedule after fading ratings.
Well done Matthew Newton – do the world a favor and stay in rehab

Why not just import the UK version with Simon Cowell and Danny Minogue? Foxtel airs American Idol.

You all need to be more respectful for those who suffer mental illness. And are jerks. And talentless.

He might find life a little more fulfilling if he wasn’t a hostage to his ego. Unfortunately fame is mostly wank and ego
