A float in Saturday’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade with more than 180 participants was part of a new campaign to put an end to HIV transmission by 2020.

The Aids Council of NSW – or ACON Health – was behind the campaign created by agency Frost which won the work in a creative pitch against four other agencies.

The End HIV campaign included outdoor executions, a three-minute infographic targeting gay males as well as print and digital.

Frost took inspiration from ’80s band Wham and their ‘Choose Life’ t-shirts.

The video was created by production company Heckler.

Vince Frost, founder and ECD of Frost, said: “This was an incredibly important brief and we had to respond with a highly engaging and effective campaign that makes a tangible contribution to eliminating the transmission of HIV in Australia. Work like this is perhaps the most tangible example of how design can contribute to improving our lives and the world in which we live”.

Geoff Honour, ACON’s director HIV and sexual health said: “With new targets and advances in treatments, there is a very real opportunity to put an end to the HIV epidemic and we have to seize it. This campaign will be a crucial step in communicating very clear messages to the gay community and people living with HIV, on what they can do to help achieve this. Importantly, this campaign has to be more than a one off – it has to be the start of a continuing dialogue and mobilisation of the community.”
