2013 – The year’s disliked personalities

1. Kyle Sandilands

Kyle“Arrogant”, “rude”, “obnoxious” and “annoying” are words that Australians use to describe Sandilands yet his enduring on-air success leaves even the people who feel this way uncertain whether they are fans or not. One Encore Score respondent posed the rhetorical question: “Foolish, but strangely likeable?” The star’s move to a new network in 2014 will certainly answer that.

2. Matthew Newton

Like Sandilands before him, Newton cops a beating for his perceived “arrogance” with few Encore Score respondents able to look past his well documented and highly public struggles.

3. Sam Newman

The third in a line of names to be deemed “arrogant” by the public, Newman is called “obnoxious”, a “smart arse” and a “yobbo” by members of the Australian public.

4. Pauline Hanson

Australians mainly remember Hanson for the spoof song ‘I don’t like it’ performed by drag impersonator Pauline Pantsdown in the late ‘90s and sentiment regarding her image centres on her political views with one respondent commenting: “I disagree with her political and personal views, especially as relates to immigration issues”.

5. Lara Bingle

The public’s negative perception of Bingle stems from the belief she is famous for simply being famous with the public questioning her credibility and noting that she is “overexposed”.

6. Tom Waterhouse

The public have taken note of Waterhouse’s “media saturation” as one Encore Score respondent called it, finding him “overexposed”, “pretentious” and “a mummy’s boy”.

7. Alan Jones

It’s clear Australian’s are not fans of Jones considering him to be “rude”, a “big mouth”, “opinionated” and “outspoken”, qualities that others very much admire the broadcaster for.  One respondent calls him “the poster boy for right wing Australia” while others question whether his word can be trusted.
