‘You Are My Sunbeam’
Sunbeam is to launch a $5m major advertising campaign to coincide with its sponsorship of the new series of Masterchef, which launches on Ten on Monday night.
The centre of the campaign is a 60 second ad developed by independent creative agency Brave and produced by Exit Films.
It features a new version of the traditional song “You are my Sunshine”. There is also a 30 second version of the ad.
Sunbeam CEO David Jackson said: “We have upped the ante with this brilliant new campaign, which highlights just how integral Sunbeam and our products are to people’s lives. We are confident that this new creative, and our association with MasterChef, will invigorate consumer demand for small appliances and drive customers into the stores of our retail partners.”
typo ? “Sunbeam is to launch a $5 major advertising campaign”

Oops. You’d almost think that story was dashed out on Friday night as I was running out of the door…
Typo now corrected – ta.

I don’t wish to be negative, but I fail to see any connection between ‘designed to help’, appliances that are like balloons and ‘You are my Sunbeam’.
I think while it’s (kind of) shot ok, it’s lacking a little creative thinking.
Was this researched?

hm..
i think they made the ads based on the song…
it’s like how children attached with balloons.. so do we with those appliances..
it’s like saying we cant live without those things..
as the last sentence on the lyric says: “please don’t take my sunbeam away..”

Plagiarism or imitation?
While it’s not a bad ad, it’s a little Miss Dior Cheri, a little Weetbix kids, a little Moccona coffee and ANZ banking.
There isn’t a single original idea. It also bothers me how many ads are shot in the same Martin Place/Wynyard location. Is there not another place that defines ‘nondescript modern city location’?

It’s quite a lovely ad visually (despite feeling more like an ad for life insurance or something of the sort?), not entirely sure what the tie in is meant to be with the “Designed to help” tagline. Maybe it will become more clear with the association with Masterchef. I would assume there would be a bit of product placement in the Masterchef kitchen through the series?

Pretty naff – if you ask me. Thanks for sparing us the full 60′ cut Tim.

“Please DO take my Sunbeam away!” This week alone, I’ve had to return a water chiller and a toaster, both for malfunctions. On the upside though, they do replace them without confrontation. Re the ad, meh … the song is always one to be stuck on the brain so it scores points there but isn’t it all a bit cute?

Shame they didn’t allocate any of that $5mil to concept development.

5M spend (???????) will make this a tad annoying within a few days.
Better put new batteries in the remote to sit through Master Chef for the coming weeks!

Sometime I wish I did have my coffee machine floating around with me. A sandwich maker would be good too, that way you could set up anywhere on the street and start making lovely toasties and freshly brewed coffee for the homeless.

Seriously, how many people have an emotional connection to an iron???

@ Anonymous I think if you find a good iron or any other kitchen product you can form an emotional connection – ironing is possibly one of the most annoying household chores so if I find a top-notch iron that makes the process that much more easier then I’m in love! I love my Sunbeam toaster and kettle for example! (love in a non-sexual, human/machine way, nothing sordid going on in my kitchen!)
Great ad but with likely high-rotation during Masterchef I hope they have some further executions and extensions budgeted for within that 5mil!

OMFG – how many more phenomenon in the city ads can we have?
At least it’s blanded out to a level that appeals to my grandma.

I loved the new Sunbeam tvc, fantastic, so much more interesting than that those boring ads from Breville.

Well, I love the ad. Can you tell me who is singing?
