YouTube introduces paid search in Australia
YouTube has today rolled out a new model that will see Australian brands and advertisers able to promote their videos to users based on the same payment model as Google AdWords.
Those looking to promote their videos will be able to bid on search keywords in the same way they do with Google search, and then pay per click for the number of times their video is viewed.
In the beta stage, Mitsubishi was among the Australian brands to trial the Promoted Videos service, which is already available in the US.
YouTube is owned by Google.
YouTube product manager Jay Akkad told Mumbrella: “We want to allow advertisers to get in front of users at every stage. Just like Google we can show relevant ads, with up to two at the top and eight down the right hand side.”
The dashboard is integrated into the existing AdWords dashboard.
The move, which is the latest step in YouTube’s move towards putting itself on a commercial footing, was announced in a posting on the YouTube Australia blog today.
Winner! This will help to bridge the gap between paid and earned media!

We set up the Mitsubishi campaign mentioned in this article and we are really happy with the results so far. CTR is amazing, so Larry to answer your query about relevance, plenty of it here thank you. Think of it like paid search, but with video as opposed to text ads. The relevance is completely dependent on the keywords you target, so no point trying to target keywords like “funny cat videos” if the video you’re trying to promote is about cars…
Using the overlay ads on top of the promoted video works well too.
I won’t be surprised to see many large advertisers integrating this into their search strategy in 2010.

Im undecided. Definitely better in terms of ensuring that your video reaches your audience more consistantly (particulalry more targeted). But … along with adwords… and facebook ads the bottom line now has another mouth to feed. Hence for marketers = better. For businesses = better… but more expensive at end of day.

Seems like a solid step forward for both advertisers and the possibly the public.
