Y&R NZ’s McWhopper takes home most metal on slow night for Aussies at D&AD Awards

McWhopper_Main_05Y&R New Zealand was named Agency of the Year at the D&AD Awards overnight after scooping the most gongs of any agency on what proved to be a disappointing evening for Australia.

While M&C Saatchi took out a new White Pencil for “work that demonstrate the power to affect real and positive change in the world through creative thinking” for its 2014 Clever Buoy work, Joy was the only Australian agency to pick up a Yellow Pencil for its Cards Against Domestic Violence work.

Australian agencies also took home 25 Wood Pencils, while GPY&R’s Melanoma Like Me was handed a Graphite Pencil.

Y&R’s big winner on the night was the McWhopper work, which gave the agency six Yellow, one Graphite and one Wood pencil for its work on the Burger King activation.

Just two Black Pencils, the highest award given by the judges, were handed out, with those going to The World Addressed by what3words in the Creativity for Good section from the UK, and mt expo 2015 by iyamadesign for Kamoi Kakoshi in the Spatial Design category from Japan.

D&AD Awards are often seen as a precursor to campaigns which will do well at the Cannes Lions festival, which takes place next month.
