Y&R wins ad of the month with Burger King knock out

MiniA Burger King ad capitalising on the knock out win of boxer David Tua over opponent Shane Cameron, as been awarded ad of the month by the Newspaper Advertising Bureau in New Zealand.

The Burger King KO ad, created by Y&R, featured the words “K.O” in large writing, to reflect Tua’s knock out win in October.

It beat out DraftFCB’s Halloween Mini ad, which featured the car covered by a white sheet accompanied by the copy “BOO”.

The judges said the Burger King creative was an example of “very effective use of newspapers’ short lead time” and being able to push “ad out so fast against a tight deadline”.

The winning creative team will receive $250 in cash, with the NAB sponsoring the ad into the 2010 Axis Awards. It will also appear in the “What’s New” section of December’s AdMedia and becomes a finalist in the 2010 $10,000 Newspaper Ad of Year competition.
