Foxtel chooses Zeebox for companion app

Zeebox logoZeebox Australia has announced it will partner with Foxtel as the subscription television network’s companion app.

The Zeebox app was released in Australia four months ago, in partnership with Channel Ten.

“Through our partnership with Foxtel we are expanding the audience of our companion app and setting the standard for a universal social television platform that all broadcasters can use to engage directly with the fans of their shows,” said  Craig Blair, Zeebox Australia CEO.

“We are delighted that Foxtel is embracing our open industry model and look forward to announcing more channel partnership agreements in the coming months.”

The Ten Network is a founding shareholder of Zeebox Australia

Companion apps are intended to be used by viewers via their mobile devices while they watch television.

Jon Marquard, Ten’s chief operating officer, said: “We are pleased to welcome Foxtel to the Zeebox family and we are confident that the addition of the Foxtel channels will make Zeebox an even more compelling proposition for every television viewer in Australia.”

The addition of Foxtel to Zeebox, means that all of Australia’s major networks now have a companion app. Nine’s is Jump In while Seven’s is Fango.
