Zip Co appoints new director of global communications

Global buy now pay later (BNPL) company, Zip Co Limited, has appointed Nicola King as its new director of global communications as of the 29 June. The role will be reporting to Zip chief customer officer, Steve Brennen.

King joins Zip from global consulting and advisory firm Teneo, where she worked in London before moving to Sydney and was most recently managing director.

Based in Sydney, King will lead external and executive communications working with employees across the company’s 12 international markets to implement a global communications strategy that drives Zip’s renewed purpose to rebalance the power of payments, putting people at the centre.

King joins Zip with over 17 years of global experience in corporate communications strategy. During her tenure at Teneo, King was responsible for directing client strategies, communications and issues management, working across the US, UK, Europe, Middle East and APAC, to help clients enhance their reputations, build trust with their stakeholders and navigate disruption.

Previously, King spent four years in the US as head of external communications for health insurance provider Premera Blue Cross, supporting the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, and during the global financial crisis she advised on strategic and stakeholder communications at the UK’s Financial Services Authority.

Chief customer officer of Zip, Steve Brennen, said: “Nicola is an incredibly accomplished communications leader, with professional strategic and management experience that spans a wide range of industries and sectors. She brings a breadth of insight and knowledge to the role.

“Nicola understands the complexity of being a global brand, challenging the status quo. She’ll work hand-in-hand with our executive team, to drive brand awareness and trust among our global merchants, customers and partners”.

King said of her new role: “I’m excited to be joining Zip as we launch our new brand and establish ourselves as a unified global business. As a customer, I’ve experienced Zip’s people-first approach and witnessed the company’s commitment to building innovative, responsible and transparent payments products.

“There is a huge opportunity for the BNPL industry to change the way people pay. I look forward to being part of the team that is helping businesses and consumers around the world to take control of their financial future.”

Last month, global retail bank, payments and shopping service, Klarna, recently tapped Zip for its new ANZ marketing director, Katrina Ang.

Ang was appointed marketing director to help spearhead the company’s marketing and brand across Australia and New Zealand.
