Zip Co director of marketing Katrina Ang departs
Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) company Zip Co’s first marketing boss has departed, with Katrina Ang leaving the business after more than three years.
Ang was appointed to the role of head of marketing in September of 2018, and later became director, marketing. She joined the company at the start of 2018 as brand communications and content manager.
At the time it was a newly created role and the first head of marketing role for Zip Co.
Zip Co global CMO Steve Brennen confirmed Ang’s departure, and in a comment to Mumbrella, said: “After three and a half years at Zip, Katrina Ang is moving on.
Kat had an amazing impact during her journey here, turning Zip from a local company to a global brand. Kat built a strong, talented and creative team who took Zip from a company with some buzz to a household name known by 1 in 2 Australians today.
“It’s no coincidence that in Kat’s three and a bit years, Zip’s Australian customer base grew from 500,000 to 2.5 million. We are trying to fill Kat’s large shoes to continue our mission to be the first payment choice everywhere and everyday.”
In a post on LinkedIn, Ang thanked co-founders Larry Diamond and Peter Gray for the opportunity.
“After three and a half years with Zip Co, sadly, it’s time to say goodbye. Lots of mixed emotions walking away from a company with such an extraordinary growth trajectory ahead, but equally excited to get going with the next chapter of my life,” she said.
“A personal thank you to everyone who has had a hand in supporting me and the team. You have been rockstars and I am incredibly lucky to have had you by my side.”
Her announcement also included a video featuring Diamond and Gray.
Diamond said: “We want to say a huge farewell to Kat… who joined us in early 2018. We said to Kat you’ve got 500 grand, you’ve got 5 months, and you’ve got to get this brand to life.
“A few months later we launched a global brand. What a pleasure it’s been working with you Kat. We are very, very sad to see you go.”
Gray added: “The brand wouldn’t be here without you. It’s an amazing legacy… You’ll be sadly missed.”
Mumbrella has requested a comment from Zip Co on Ang’s replacement.
Zip Co recently launched its mobile-first ‘Can I Zip It? Yes You Can’ brand campaign, starring local celebrities, sports stars and influencers.
