Zoo Group’s founder and CEO Pawl Cubbin passes away
The founder and CEO of Canberra-based creative agency Zoo Group, Pawl Cubbin, has died.
Cubbin founded the advertising agency which once had offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra, in 2003.
As reported in The Canberra Times, Jimi Bostock, former Zoo Group creative director, said Cubbin “just had this energy and excitement for creative ideas and new ways of doing things”.
“The one thing I knew about Pawl was it was never about the money – it was the thrill of taking an idea and turning that idea into a reality,” Bostock told the publication.
Zoo Group’s Melbourne office closed in November last year while its Sydney office is reported to have entered liquidation a couple of months ago.
According to The Canberra Times, The Canberra office is set to close on May 4.
A spokesperson from Zoo Group Canberra, said: “He will be sorely missed.
“The team has been back and forth on phones today just comforting each other.”
Zoo Group had worked with clients including Cricket Australia, Engineers Australia, Unilever and the Lien Foundation.

So sad in a very different approach, his father David Cubbin was the man in Adelaide who supported me in my career path as en Entreprenurial Flautist. His father David was one of Australasia’s finest Flute professors at Adelaide Uni. The entrepreneurial spirit must have passed from father to son as when I said I wanted to leave a career in classical music, playing flute to go into the original Jesus Christ Superstar show Pawl’s Dad David said Yes do it. Pawl’s Dad was my reason to take my passion as a musician into the Entrepreneurial world. The Cubbin family are special in my life, even though I did not know Pawl.
