Dr Mumbo

Mia, do you sometimes feel like you’re running out of things to be outraged about?

Dr Mumbo has never quite understood why certain elements of the digital world feel so strongly about Mamamia founder Mia Freedman.

Nonetheless her grilling by Tom Gleeson’s on ABC’s The Weekly last night was something to behold.

The question: “Do you ever click on your own clickbait and think: ‘Why am I reading this shit?'” is a toughie.

But Gleeson’s Hard Chat segments have been a standout feature of The Weekly since it began. And Freedman stood up much better to the assault than many who went before.

Not least, his brilliant takedown of psychic John Edward: “Can you talk to my soul, because I’m dead inside?”

And then there was Derryn Hinch. “For Channel Seven you did Dancing With The Stars. Which star did you partner with?”

Plus politician Jacqui Lambie, where the highlight is her deeply unimpressed expression in the final three seconds.

To Greens leader and trained medical doctor Richard Di Natale: “What’s the prescription for smug?”

And independent Nick Xenephon. “What’s in your browser history?”

Brits might wonder whether Gleeson has been a little inspired by comedian Paul Kaye’s alter ego Dennis Pennis and his takedowns of the likes of Hugh Hrant, Mel Gibson and Tom Hanks during the 1990s.
