Gizmodo Australia editor Luke Hopewell is joining Twitter as its Moments lead, responsible for the establishment and rollout of the feature locally.

Twitter’s Moments are a compiled list of important stories that are unfolding on Twitter, with separate sections for entertainment and sport.

Hopewell will oversee the appointment and training of an editorial curation team with the remit to utilise Moments to increase the reach of publishers’ content on Twitter.

“My time at Gizmodo Australia has been an absolute blast. In a little over three years, the tech world has dramatically changed. Newer, faster, cheaper devices distributed to pockets around the world have made the conversation between users richer, while also giving consumers a new way to read content and share information,” Hopewell said in a statement.

“I’m honoured to have been at the helm of a publication (and with a wider company at Allure) that understands where digital media is going.”

Hopewell joined Allure Media’s Gizmodo in May 2012 and has also previously worked at Business Insider and CBS Interactive.

“Luke has helped Gizmodo grow into a technology and culture the draws 1.5 million unique Australian readers (UBs) each month. He should be as deservedly proud of his time at Allure – as I am of him,“ said Danny Allen, managing editor and publisher of Gizmodo, Lifehacker and Kotaku Australia.

“Gizmodo is now actively seeking an energetic newshound who lives and breathes the tech space, and we have some candidates already in mind.”

Twitter has also recently appointed the Nine Network’s Jonathan Harley as director of media partnerships and Samsung’s Jenny Goodridge as head of business development and platform partnerships for Australia and New Zealand.

The new appointments follow on from Twitter slashing jobs globally as part of a restructure, including Twitter Australia news and government partnerships manager Flip Prior.
