Mail Online snares Sydney Confidential staffer
The Mail Online has stolen another News Corp staffer with one of the Daily Telegraph’s Sydney Confidential reporters Maria Lewis defecting to the publisher, and more expected to follow.
Lewis follows News.com.au editor Luke McIlveen over to the British publisher, which has stated it intends to hire 50 reporters for its joint venture with Nine Entertianment Co’s digital sales arm Mi9 in Australia.
Her move comes in the week Mail Online global publisher Martin Clarke, in Sydney interviewing candidates, told Mumbrella they had already hired three journalists for the Australian showbiz team, and had started posting locally generated Australian content to the international site.
He also claimed to have received over 200 job applications from journalists.
Lewis, who describes herself as “an authority on film and pop culture” has been on the Sydney Confidential team since August, ad with News Corp in Sydney since 2012.
A spokesman for the Mail Online declined to comment, but News Corp confirmed Lewis has left the company.
McIlveen is yet to be officially named as editor of the Mail Online Australia.
Hmmm given that the Mail and its various offshoots are more to the right than the Daily Terror aka Telegraph and other rubbish from News Ltd it is not surprising that “journalists” such as M Lewis are defecting. It will be interesting to see how long this “journalist” and others of her ilk will last with this ratbag of an excuse for a tabloid online waste of gigabits and power.

Steven, the article doesn’t actually call any News Corp employees “journalists”.

Hey Steven, watch who you are insulting. Apart from being a fine journalist and a total film geek Maria Lewis is one of the nicest people you could ever have the good fortune to meet. Save your early morning bile for someone who deserves it.
