Museum of Australian Democracy behind totalitarian stunt

The organisation behind a stunt to create the fictional Australian Interior Authority which also included sending hoax redundancy letters to journalists has been revealed as The Museum of Australian Democracy.

The campaign, orchestrated by Draft FCB and PR agency Fenton, was intended to stimulate conversation around democracy. It precedes “Have Your Say Day” which takes place next Wednesday. The museum will also be releasing the findings of a survey into Australian attitudes towards democracy.

Part of the campaign saw billboards posted with various arbitary rules.

There were also announcements of a curfew and a ban on public gatherings uploaded to YouTube, which have had 782 and 308 views each at the time of posting.

The museum claims on its Our Freedom website that the project has provoked “a national debate”. According to its announcement there have also been “hundreds of comments” online.  Among the conversations about who was behind the campaign was one on the Whirlpool forum where many particpants presumed it was the work of pro-tobacco campaigners.
