Nine MSN boss Pollard: We won’t be charging for news content
NineMSN has ruled out charging consumers for online news content, CEO Joe Pollard has said.
In a posting on her company blog, Pollard said: “As Australia’s largest online publisher, ninemsn is frequently asked about our own business strategy when it comes to revenue generating streams for our news product. For the record, we do not intend to charge for our online news content.” She added:
“As premium, innovative and differentiated as our news product is, introducing a charge for our audience to consume it is just not part of ninemsn’s game plan…but nor is this really what the “paying for online news content” argument should be about anyway.
“At ninemsn, we firmly believe an advertiser-funded model is what Australian audiences expect and accept when it comes to the consumption of online news.”
Her comments as the Rupert Murdoch-led News Corp – which includes News Digital Media in Australia – continues to hone its strategy to persuade consumers to pay for at least some of its online content.
It’s amazing it has taken this long for ninemsn plans in this space to come out when everyone else is talking about it. No one asked them. A little too introspective in the mainstream media? ninemsn must be sitting back rubbing their hands together waiting for News and Fairfax to charge. Another way for them to attract audience without investing in product.

When are you people going to stop using a “NEWS’ site as a cheap form of exploiting women???
I cant beilieve the derrogative SH#T that I see on your site every day.
Until widely used sites like yours operate with dignity and respect toward women, the furure for the FAIRER sex looks bleak indeed.
