Pedestrian’s Lindt chocolate bunny siege pic isn’t what it looks like; Social media guru Papworth’s oafish tweet; Uber cashes in
An early contender for least classy coverage of the Lindt Store siege goes to Pedestrian Daily with this image, apparently showing a chocolate Lindt bunny sitting on a police barrier.
A quick reverse image shows that the picture was taken by Getty Images in Germany in March last year. It actually shows a bunny on a blue and white beach basket.
Pedestrian’s Facebook followers aren’t hugely impressed.
Neither is Dr Mumbo.
1.05pm update: Pedestrian TV writer Alasdair Duncan later tweeted an apology about the image saying “It’s literally just the first one I found in Getty Images, sorry everyone”. The image has now been removed from the Pedestrian story but remains on their Facebook page.
Second least classy coverage? Social media guru Laurel Papworth’s somewhat twisted priorities…

3pm update: After initially justifying its surge pricing as a bid to get more drivers to the congested Sydney CBD, Uber decided to make its rides free.

I’m actually just as appalled by people getting mad about a stock image of a bunny, as many are that they published it. I think in this instance the content of their reporting is perhaps a tad more important. Are they being inflammatory? Reporting on police tactics? Sharing images of Sydney airspace? Saying a flag is one thing when it’s another thing all together?
In my books, that’s probably worthy of the tag ‘least classy’ coverage.

Don’t try to justify Papworth’s tweet, if she was a guru sh’ed know that a corporation’s social media manager isn’t usually located at one of their frontline retail stores.

I don’t get the complaints about Uber. More people want to get out of the city than there are cars available to take them all. Of course that’s going to drive prices up. The same thing happens on a busy Saturday night. If you’re not prepared to pay for a private driver then get a cab.
