The Dressmaker keeps top spot in box office ahead of release of new Bond film this week

Australian film The Dressmaker made another $3m in its second weekend atop the box office with its total takings already topping $8m in just ten days.

However The Dressmaker’s fine run – $3.063m on 382 screens – is likely to come to an end this week as the latest James Bond film SPECTRE is finally released in Australia, having taken nearly US$300m in under a fortnight in most other markets, toppling box office records.

Comedy horror film A Scout’s Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse was the highest new entry in fifth spot despite being released a week after Halloween while Simon Pegg’s new romcom Man Up, about a case of mistaken identity on a blind date, only managed $187,297 on 103 screens in ninth spot.

The Dressmaker, starring Kate Winslet as a woman returning to her outback home town in 1951 to solve a murder mystery – and introduce the locals to high fashion – managed to keep Matt Damon’s smash The Martian in second spot taking $1.445m on the weekend for a total box office of more than $25m so far.

Aussie film Oddball also stayed in the top 10 with the kid’s flick now grossing more than $10.5m, in what has been a decent year for local productions at the box office.
