Gogglebox free-to-air premiere up on last year as The Checkout debut down on last year
The return of the ABC’s The Checkout pulled in 653,000 metro viewers at 8:00pm last night, down on last year’s debut, which was watched by 727,000 while the return to Ten of Gogglebox, at 8:30pm, grabbed 629,000.
It was up on last year’s free-to-air premiere, which saw 495,000 metro viewers tune in.
Gogglebox was the third most-watched show amongst viewers aged 16-39 and the most-watched show amongst 18 to 49-year-old viewers and 25-54 year olds.
The most-watched non-news program of the evening was Seven’s My France with Manu, which grabbed 713,000 metro viewers at 7:30pm.
On Nine, The Footy Show, airing at 8:30pm in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth was watched by 582,000, making it the most-watched show amongst 16 to 39-year-old viewers.
Nine won the night with an audience share of 23.8%, ahead of Seven’s share of 16.3%. Ten settled for third place with a share of 14% and the ABC with a share of 12.7%.
On the ABC, 7.30 was watched by 662,000, and Janet King (8:30pm) pulled in 608,000.
In the news battleground, Seven News at 6:00pm grabbed 1.003m viewers, sliding to 917,000 from 6:30pm.
Nine News at 6:00pm had an audience of 941,000, growing to 954,000 from 6:30pm.
I enjoyed Gogglebox, but it had a slightly nastier edge to it (the Daryl Somers stuff in particular) than I remember last year, which I found a litte unsettling.
