More than 1m witness transformation of geeks to gorgeous

Beauty and the Geek’s makeover episode soared to the top of the ratings last night with more than 1m viewers.

The show averaged 1.089m metro viewers, marking its highest numbers since the series launched four weeks ago.

Meanwhile the second episode of Redfern Now had 529,000 viewers on ABC1, a slight drop on last week’s debut.

And Ten’s Law and Order: SVU was second in its timeslot and the strongest performer for the network with an average of 593,000 metro viewers, according to OzTam’s preliminary overnight ratings.

A new episode of Top Gear on Nine was ninth for the night with an average 438,000 viewers at 8pm.

The gap appears to be widening between Nine’s evening gameshow Hot Seat and Seven’s new show Million Dollar Minute, fronted by Grant Denyer. Seven’s new show, introduced in September to take the place of fading Deal or No Deal averaged 425,000 viewers last night, while Hot Seat had 615,000.

However the race was tighter between Seven and Nine’s breakfast shows Sunrise and Today.

Seven’s Sunrise just came out on top with an average 346,000 metro viewers while Today had 328,000. However, Today won in Sydney and Melbourne.

Ten’s Wake Up rated just 29,000 from 7am to 8.30am.

In the mid morning battle, Seven’s The Morning Show pipped Nine’s Mornings by 126,000 to 125,000.  Studio 10 rated 41,000.
