Over 2.5 million viewers watch NSW win the State of Origin

The second clash between NSW and Queensland in the NRL State of Origin was watched by 2.563m metro viewers on Nine across capital cities with the exception of Perth, preliminary overnight ratings from OzTam have shown.

It was up on the viewers for the first round which saw 2.487m metro viewers tune in.

Nine aired the match on Gem in Perth where it attracted a further 119,000 viewers, taking the five city total to 2.682m. The OzTam system does not capture viewers watching out of home.

The State of Origin post match was watched by 1.811m metro viewers, while the pre-match show saw 1.69m metro viewers tune in.

The game, which saw NSW break Queensland eight-year stranglehold on the Origin, ensured Nine easily won the night with an audience share of 38.2 per cent and in Perth Gem had an audience share of 13.7 per cent.

Seven lagged well behind with an audience share of 12.5 per cent, while Masterchef and Offspring helped Ten to a share of 12.4 per cent. However, in Melbourne Ten beat Seven with an audience share of 16.9 per cent compared to Seven’s 13.1 per cent. It also beat Seven in Adelaide with a share of 17.3 per cent versus Seven’s 17 per cent share. ABC1 had a share of 8.3 per cent. SBS One had a share of 2.9 per cent beaten by 7Two, Gem, Go!, ABC2, Eleven and 7mate all which had an audience share of 3.1 per cent or greater.

Offspring which was watched by 823,000 metro viewers, dropping from Masterchef’audience of 859,000 metro.

Masterchef beat Seven’s offering of Coastwatch Oz, also airing at 7.30pm, which managed to attract 554,000 metro viewers. Masterchef was the most watched show outside of Origin and news.
