Dr Mumbo

60 of adland’s finest head to prison

Dr Mumbo suspects that more than one of his now-upstanding adland compatriots may have – at one time or another – flouted the letter (and spirit) of the law.

So it comes as little surprise that 60 industry leaders will soon find themselves behind bars.

Dr Mumbo wonders what John Broome did wrong

Dr Mumbo must concede that, as always, there is more to the story, and the lock-up is part of UnLtd’s Adland Bail Out, to raise funds for Whitelion and help young people at risk.

Inmates must, Dr Mumbo is told, raise over $1,000 in order to be bailed out of Yasmar Juvenile Detention Centre in Haberfield on the morning of 5 May after spending the night locked away – however he’s yet to hear if any of last year’s participants are still there after failing to reach the one-comma club.

Dividing the ‘gangs’, much like it divided this year’s highly-competitive cricket teams, UnLtd has revealed there will be the Media Owner Gang, Creative Gang, Tech Gang and Media Agency Gang.

Fresh off his high of leading the Sydney cricket team to a victory, ARN’s Rob Atkinson will be there.

So too will Facebook’s Will Easton. Whatever will other inmates talk to Easton about, Dr Mumbo wonders?

GroupM’s Mark Lollback, News Corp’s Lou Barrett, ThinkTV’s Kim Portrate, AANA’s John Broome, Omnicom’s Peter Horgan, OMD’s Aimee Buchanan, and IPG’s Danny Bass will also be locked away.

The ‘motley crew’ will be stripped of their possessions, finger printed, photographed and subjected to interrogation before spending the night behind bars as part of a national campaign to bring awareness to young people who have been disconnected from the community due to abuse and neglect, drug addiction and poverty.

CEO of UnLtd told Dr Mumbo (via a widely-issued press release): “I’m pretty scared to be locked up with this motley crew. On a more serious note, it is great to bring our industry together to support Whitelion.

“To be able to experience first-hand what it is like to be locked up and hear the stories of individuals who have been through the prison system will bring to life the issues that they face and that we need to tackle in society.

“As an industry, we have the influence, skills and resources to make a huge difference and events like this aim to harness the power for good. Collectively, we can change our country and make it a better place for all.”

Dr Mumbo notes neither Mumbrella’s founder and content director Tim Burrowes, nor editor Vivienne Kelly are available for the lock-up this year, so he instead provides the details below, and encourages the law-abiding among you to donate.
