A Good Weekend to be Mark Dapin
For every columnist that loses out in a magazine revamp – and fans of Maggie Alderson have now said their farewells to the Good Weekend writer – there are also winners in the new look Fairfax Media title.
Not only does Mark Dapin’s column survive, but a couple of pages later, he was in action again with a lengthy profile of publicist Max Markson.
And just for good measure, Dapin’s then bylined for a further feature on the Australia survivors of this year’s tsunami in Indonesia.
Dapin is at his best when he writes about other people, but at his worst (or at leats most boring) when he makes himself part of the story.

Easily the best writer at the Good Weekend by a long margin…

Shocking new layout for the first few pages, though. A real mess.
‘looked like it was from the “toss it over the shoulder and see where it lands” school of art direction.

I thought the GW redesign worked… It’s the redesign of Saturday’s paper that’s the utter disaster. Tacky, cheap looking, impossible to navigate, can’t be bothered…. I get The SMH home-delivered and practically every Saturday some bugger steals it off my front doorstep. I’m actually starting to think they’re doing me a favour!!!
