A not-so-priceless Mastercard ad
Seeing celebrities in advertising is what, as consumers, something we have come to expect. Sometimes it works and sometimes it’s a little bit saddening to watch.
In this particular case out of the UK, the latter applies.
If you were ever a fan of Bonnie Tyler’s classic eighties power ballad Total Eclipse of the Heart, then walk away now.
Damn you Mastercard with your deep pockets, enticing a faded pop star to massacre her own song for the sake of your ad. Damn you.
Karaoke will never be the same again.
I wonder if anyone else thinks it’s an attempt to play off this Youtube parody video of her original song, which has been doing the rounds virally lately (7 million views):

Either way, check it out for laughs.

This is the typical storyboard that would’ve performed really well in research. Massive fail.

I cacked myself and I think it’s a pretty good ad too. I’m glad to see Bonnie Tyler doesn’t take herself too seriously – perhaps 80s power ballad kareoke fans (Tim !) should lighten up.

Gezza, Gezza, Gezza… what are you saying? This is possibly the worst ad I have seen in ages – I’m just surprised it came out of the UK rather than here!

OMG! that’s just embarrassing – she obviously needs the money

Maybe it’s not really a Mastercard ad but a PR campaign to re-launch Bonnie Tyler’s career! *shock!!!* Those things NEVER happen ;). lol

I feel a bit sad after watching that…

Oh lord! Don’t you guys take yourselves seriously?? It’s a hoot and doesn’t pretend to be anything but a piss-take. Lighten up!
