ABC presents Jimi Hendrix

ABC digital radio is dedicating an entire weekend to Jimi Hendrix – Showcasing interviews, documentaries, and music.

The announcement:

Starting at 9am on Saturday September 18 and running through to 9pm on Sunday September 19, ABC Digital Radio is presenting a whole weekend of rare documentaries, interviews and the music of guitar legend Jimi Hendrix.

Nobody revolutionised the way rock guitar is played the way Hendrix did and on the 40th anniversary of his passing, ABC Digital Radio is creating ABC Jimi Hendrix – the digital radio station.

Sounding better than ever, it’s what digital radio was made for.

The station will be broadcasting digitally remastered tracks from his three studio albums and some rare international documentaries including: Hendrix at The Beeb, Hendrix: Made in London, The Man With the Guitar, Cult Heroes: Jimi Hendrix, Electric Ladyland: 40 Years On and American Landing: Jimi Hendrix at Monterey.

ABC special event digital radio has already revisited the historic Apollo 11 moon landing mission, taken listeners on a musical trip back to Woodstock, brought together the excitement of the 2009 Melbourne International Arts Festival, marked the 10th Anniversary of East Timor’s independence referendum, celebrated Australian music month by highlighting triple j’s Unearthed artists, given listeners the perfect Christmas holiday soundtrack with Classic Season, had listeners bopping away with rare documentaries from the Fab Four and recognised the significance of ANZAC Day.
