ACCC warns of scammers calling Qantas customers ‘falsely claiming to help them get payments’
The ACCC has warned that scammers have been calling people with claims they can help with reimbursements by Qantas, using the ACCC media release to convince passengers they are official.
This comes after Monday morning’s announcement that Qantas will commence a projected $20 million remediation program for customers they sold cancelled flights to, with payments ranging from $225 to $450.
“If you receive a call from anyone offering to help you with a payment or refund, hang up immediately,” a warning issued by the ACCC reads.
“Never give personal information to anyone calling you out of the blue, never give access to your computer or bank account and never click on a link in a text message or open an attachment in an email if you were not expecting the text or email.
“If you have given information to a scammer or lost money, contact your bank immediately.”
The ACCC also urges anyone who receives such a call to contact Scamwatch.
