Ad spend in commercial radio rises again

October has been largely positive for adspend on radio, figures released by Commercial Radio Australia suggest.

A modest rise in total revenue of 0.54 per cent to $62.3m marks the ninth consecutive month of growth for advertising spend.

Sydney had the strongest performing market with a revenue increase of 3.15 per cent to $19.293m, while Melbourne climbed by one per cent to $19.009m, and Perth and Brisbane saw modest increases of 0.54 per cent and 0.15 per cent respectively.

Adelaide was the only city to see a decline on last year’s ad spend with a drop of 8.33 per cent on last October to $5.505m.

Joan Warner, CEO of Commercial Radio Australia, said: “Nine months of continuous growth shows that radio remains a reliable and valuable medium for advertisers in challenging market conditions.”

All five metro markets posted gains for the first four months of the financial year according to the data sourced by Deloitte.

By city in the first four months of the financial year Deloitte recorded:

  • Melbourne up by 6.75% to $73.446 m
  • Perth up by 5.14% to $32.575 m
  • Sydney up by 3.65% to $74.134 m
  • Brisbane up by 1.85% to $36.573 m
  • Adelaide up by 0.35% to $21.484m
