Department store David Jones is launching its Christmas fundraising campaign for The Smith Family.

For a gold coin donation AFL player and ambassador Adam Goodes will be serving ice-cream to customers.

Goodes will be in the David Jones Market Street store from 12.00pm to 2.00pm.

The announcement:

1 December 2017: David Jones will officially launch its Christmas fundraising campaign for The Smith Family today, with an instore stunt that will see its Ambassador Adam Goodes serving ice cream to customers for a gold coin donation.

Adam Goodes will be in the David Jones Market Street store today (Friday 1st December) from 12.00pm to 2.00pm serving scoops of the delicious new festive David Jones Ice Cream flavours – Caramel Gingerbread and Pavlova – to customers, with all funds raised going to The Smith Family.

Recognising that it’s only Christmas when we share it, throughout December, David Jones customers will be able to support The Smith Family through a number of channels:

  • David Jones & The Smith Family Christmas Charity Gift Card: David Jones has created a specially designed gift card featuring the beloved gingerbread man who stars in this year’s
Christmas campaign. David Jones will donate 10% of the uploaded value of its Christmas Charity Gift Card to The Smith Family.
  • Customers can also treat themselves to a Gingerbread Man cookie for $3.50 available from registers in all stores, with all profits going directly to The Smith Family
  • David Jones will match all donations made instore at registers or online at thesmithfamily.com.au/DavidJones

All money raised will go directly to The Smith Family to support their learning programs which help disadvantaged Australian children to get the most out of their education, so they can create better futures for themselves.

David Jones Ambassador Adam Goodes said, “Everyone loves ice cream and it’s the first day of summer so what better time to treat yourself for a great cause. I look forward to seeing customers instore today and supporting the great work The Smith Family and David Jones are doing through their partnership. Education is so important and I’ve seen firsthand the positive difference The Smith Family programs make to these kids.”

“We’re asking people to share their Christmas giving to ensure children in struggling families don’t miss out,” said The Smith Family CEO Dr Lisa O’Brien.

“Right now, there are 1.1 million children and young people living in poverty across Australia. These children are more likely to fall behind at school or drop out altogether without the extra learning support they need. Last Christmas, David Jones raised almost $100,000 for The Smith Family to help deliver essential learning programs for hundreds of children in 2018. With the generous support of partners like David Jones, we can help these children look forward to a better new year.”
