Adelaide Advertiser editor Sam Weir to lead Queensland’s Courier-Mail

Sam Weir, the current editor of the Adelaide Advertiser, has been appointed to lead Queensland’s Courier-Mail, News Corp Australia announced today.

Weir replaces Lachlan Heywood, who took the Brisbane role two years ago and will be leaving News Corp after over twenty years with the organisation.

“Lachlan is a highly respected journalist and leader in our company who has edited both the Townsville Bulletin and the Courier-Mail with distinction,” said News Corp’s Australasian executive chairman, Michael Miller, in a media statement.

“I am personally disappointed he has decided not to remain with News Corp but I respect his decision and wish him the best for the future.”

Weir has been editor of The Advertiser for the past four-and-a-half years and prior to that editor of Perth’s Sunday Times, where he expanded the Perth Now website to become a daily extension of the weekend newspaper.

“I am delighted Sam has accepted the role of editing one of the nation’s most important newspapers and he will join The Courier-Mail at a vital time for both the state and our company,” said Miller.

News Corp Australia is yet to announce Weir’s replacement at The Advertiser.
