Advertisers race to make the most of Aussie tennis interest
Advertisers have been racing to get on board Jelena Dokic’s tennis bandwagon ahead of her ratings-grabbing quarter final in the Australian Open tonight.
Seven sales chief James Warburton told Mumbrella that virtually all the slots for tonight’s clash had been snapped up. He said: “We’ve got a few open but most of it has gone. We’re expecting a very large number tonight, 30 to 50% up.”
Most advertisers took packages ahead of the tournament which were spread across the whole event, said Warburton. He added that the event has been outrating the cricket, which has been showing on Nine.
This evening’s clash, which pits the Australian against world number three Dinara Safina, will begin some time after 7.30pm, guaranteeing a tough night for Nine, which is showing Mel Gibson movie Conspiracy Thory and Ten which is looking to repeats of The Simpsons and NCIS.
