Afternoon gameshow The Chase rates better than primetime competitors

Seven’s afternoon game show, The Chase Australia, has ranked as the second most watched non-news program of the night -beating the TV networks’ weakened prime time Easter entertainment offerings

Airing at 5.30pm the gameshow averaged 584,000 metro viewers and was eighth most watched show, according to OzTAM’s overnight preliminary metro ratings.

Nationally – including both regional and metro affiliate stations where the program is broadcast – The Chase saw 973,000 tune in.

Home and Away was the only other non-news program to beat The Chase, averaging 688,000 metro viewers at 7pm on Seven, and 1.127m nationally.

With the help of Home and Away and The Chase, Seven took home a win for the evening with a 17.9% share in front of Nine’s 16.5%.

Meanwhile, ABC managed to beat Ten with an overall audience share of 12.6% while Ten pulled 12.3%.

Seven’s success continued as Seven News at 6pm was the most watched program of the evening – and only show to crack on million metro viewers – averaging 1.032m viewers, topping Nine News’ metro audience of 905,000.

Nationally Seven News saw 1.615m tune in while Nine News saw a national audience of 915,000.

Nine was the most watched program in key advertising demographic 25-54.

The 7.30pm timeslot saw Nine’s Spy in the Wild average 583,000 metro viewers ahead of Ten’s 411,000 The Graham Norton Show and ABC’s 543,000 for The Weekly With Charlie Pickering.

Spy in the Wild grabbed 831,000 nationally as The Weekly With Charlie Pickering managed 781,000, both ahead of The Graham Norton Show’s 555,000 national audience.

The 7pm Project was the most watched show across key advertising demographics 16-39, 18-49, and rated 357,000 metro viewers.
