Alice Griffin to helm Junkee as editor-in-chief

Junkee Media has appointed Alice Griffin as the new editor-in-chief of Junkee, joining in November.

Her appointment follows the exit of Junkee’s editor, Jules LeFevre, after more than six years with the publication.

Griffin will drive the publisher’s mission, voice, and strategy across all platforms. She joined from travel technology company, TRAVLR.

Prior to that, she was the editor of MTV Australia, as well as a writer and presenter with over a decade of experience in journalism and content strategy.

Griffin said: “Junkee has always been dedicated to helping young Australians unpack the culture and goings-on of the world around them: a witty, original home on the internet that wades through the noise and hones in on what matters. It’s been a place of discussion and debate, a place that spotlights underrepresented voices, and a place to get lost in a good story.

“I’m thrilled to kick off this next exciting phase of Junkee alongside a team of incredibly talented journalists and producers who continue to make this media brand one of Australia’s best.”

Owner of RACAT Group, publisher of Junkee, David Haslingden, said: “Junkee has always been a trusted source of news and entertainment for young Australians. We are delighted to see Alice lead the team and continue to build on our loyal, diverse, and engaged youth audience of over 1.3million unique users each month. Alice’s international experience spanning content strategy and lifestyle journalism has set her up to excel at Junkee and we count ourselves as very fortunate to have her join our team.”

ASX-listed oOh! Media sold Junkee Media to Racat Group in December last year. Junkee joined the latter’s array of publications, including Australian Geographic, game developer and publisher Runaway Play as well as Northern Pictures.

Junkee Media is headed up at Racat by media entrepreneur Piers Grove, who is one of the founders and publisher of satirical news site Betoota Advocate.
