Junkee editor Jules LeFevre to leave after six years at the company
Editor of youth publication, Junkee, Jules LeFevre is departing a year after she was promoted into the role.
ASX-listed Ooh Media sold Junkee Media to Racat Group in December last year.
LeFevre spent six years at Junkee, promoted from the role of music editor in July 2021, overseeing coverage of pop culture, entertainment, news, and politics in the wider editorial role.
She replaced Patrick Lenton who was in the role since November 2019. Lenton joined The Conversation as deputy editor for arts and culture in September last year after leaving Junkee.
Mumbrella contacted Junkee regarding a replacement for LeFevre.
She wrote on her LinkedIn: “In a few weeks, after more than 6 years, I’ll be finishing up at Junkee. It’s been a wonderful and wild ride, and I’ve been incredibly lucky to live my absolute dream pretty much every day for the last six years.”
“Thank you to Darren Levin, Katie Cunningham and Tim Duggan for giving me that first shot way back in the day – and thank you all the wonderful writers, bands, promoters, label folks, photographers, and everyone else I’ve worked with in my time. I’ve made some of my absolute best friends at this silly, silly place, it’s just been a blast.
“Junkee’s been such a big part of my life for such a long time, it feels very strange to be leaving. But it’s time for a bit of a rest and a break before getting stuck into the next thing.”
Ooh Media bought 85% of Junkee back in 2016 for $11.05m. Junkee Media appointed Gyan Yankovich as its managing editor in late 2020 following the appointment of Robb Stott to editorial director, in a move that saw Tim Duggan step back from the business to become its editor-at-large.
Junkee Media’s editorial, sales and implementation teams moved to Racat as part of the transaction last year, with Piers Grove, one of the founders and publisher of satirical news site Betoota Advocate heading up the company at Racat.
