Alice Through The Looking Glass premieres at number one, taking close to $3m

Johnny Depp’s Alice Through The Looking Glass drew almost $3m in ticket sales across its opening weekend.

The sequel to Alice In Wonderland made $2.993m across 503 screens, and since its premiere on Thursday has made a total of $3.242m.

It pushed X-Men: Apocalypse into second place after the Bryan Singer-directed franchise instalment attracted $2.917m across 515 screens.

Russell Crowe’s The Nice Guys claimed third place, pulling in $1.994m across 262 screens, while The Angry Birds Movie made $1.268m across 318 screens.

Taika Waititi’s Hunt for The Wilderpeople pulled in $1.102m across 113m screens while Captain America: Civil War saw its takings fall below the $1m mark, grabbing $863,203 across 247 screens.
