Allure Media’s Alison Rice to exit business after six years

Alison Rice, Allure Media’s group publisher of Popsugar, Who What Wear, Byrdie and MyDomaine Australia, will leave the business at the end of the month after more than six years.

Rice started out with Allure Media in 2012 as health and beauty editor of PopSugar Australia before being promoted to group publisher in 2014.

She will be replaced by editorial director of the titles, Amanda Bardas, effective immediately.

Bardas first joined Allure Media’s Who What Wear in 2015, as fashion editor, where she led the site’s launch. Prior to that she held a number of editorial and digital roles. Bardas will be named executive editor of the women’s lifestyle division.

Rice said the past seven years had been the most “joyful” and “enriching” of her career.

“I would like to thank Jason Scott for his trust and steady mentorship, our U.S. partner leads who I now proudly call my friends, and every single one of our hardworking team members over the years. I leave our brands in the safest of hands. Amanda is an exciting young leader and an astute digital operator. I’m extremely proud of her,” Rice said.

Allure Media CEO Jason Scott described Rice as a “true digital maverick” with a bright future.

“What she has achieved at Allure puts her front-and-centre on the world stage of digital publishing. We have only the highest regard for Alison and wish her all the very best as she moves onto her next exciting opportunity,” Scott said.

On Bardas’ appointment more specifically, Scott said he was thrilled to have her step out to lead the division.

“The strength of our women’s lifestyle assets is a credit to the leadership of Alison Rice and her team’s impressive work over several years to deliver growth and increase reader and advertiser engagement,” he said.

“Alison is a true digital maverick with a bright future ahead of her. What she has achieved at Allure puts her front-and-centre on the world stage of digital publishing. We have only the highest regard for Alison and wish her all the very best as she moves onto her next exciting opportunity.”

Bardas said she was thrilled to follow in the footsteps of Rice.

“I look forward to a fresh challenge and to lead our talented team into its next chapter, innovating and driving our world-class brands forward,” Bardas said.

Rice’s exit comes as Fairfax Media – owner of Allure Media – awaits ACCC approval to merge with Nine.
