An unbeatable Frozen 2 brings in another $3.6m at weekend box office as it tops US$1bn globally
Animated sequel Frozen 2 has proven unbeatable as Christmas edges closer, adding another $3.686m to its running total in Australia, which has now surpassed $22m.
The film aired across 585 screens for its third week of release. This week also saw the title surpass the US$1bn milestone globally, the sixth Disney film to do so this year.
The film was followed in the top 10 by Knives Out, which brought in a further $1.475m for its third week across 298 screens. It boasts a running total of $7.312m.
The Addams Family, the animated reboot of the classic cartoon created in 1938, took another $918,806 across 283 screens for its second week.
Family comedy Playing With Fire, which stars John Cena as a fire superintendent who is charged with babysitting three children, landed in fourth place for its first week of release, taking $863,616 across 261 screens.
Romantic comedy Last Christmas held onto fifth, sitting above Ford v Ferrari. Last Christmas took a further $590,877 for its sixth week, while Ford v Ferrari took $515,251 for its fifth. Both are nearing $10m in takings across their runs.
The Good Liar landed in seventh position with $497,791 across 277 screens, followed by the debut of horror flick Black Christmas which took $323,832 across 194 screens.
Black Christmas is a slasher film directed by Sophia Takal and written by Takal and April Wolfe. It follows a group of sorority sisters who are targeted by an unknown stalker and stars Imogen Poots, Aleyse Shannon, Lily Donoghue, Brittany O’Grady, Caleb Eberhardt, and Cary Elwes.
The Queen’s Corgi, an animated film about a corgi named Rex, took ninth position with $147,468 in its first week, followed by the debut of the Playmobil Movie which took $120,526 across 207 screens. Just pushed out of the top 10 was Joker, which added $113,405 to its running total, pushing it to $40.262m across 11 weeks.
